NORWALK - A DUI and driver's license checkpoint in Norwalk last Saturday resulted in 20 arrests, mostly for driving without a proper license.
More than 1,400 vehicles passed through the checkpoint at Imperial Highway, just west of Bloomfield Avenue, officials with the L.A. County Sheriff's Department said.
One suspected drunk driver was arrested. Another driver was charged with driving while high on marijuana.
Thirteen unlicensed drivers were taken into custody and sent to court. Authorities also charged five motorists for driving on suspended or revoked licenses.
Sheriff's officials impounded six vehicles for 30 days and five vehicle for one day. Seven cars were released per checkpoint release procedures.
Another checkpoint is scheduled for Norwalk on Jan. 30 from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m.
*Meanwhile, in Compton, a Dec. 26 checkpoint netted 52 arrests.
Twenty-six unlicensed drivers were arrested, in addition to 17 drivers behind the wheel with suspended or revoked licenses.
Three people were arrested for knowingly allowing an unlicensed driver to drive.
Sheriff's deputies took four people into custody for illegal possession of narcotics, and two people were arrested for driving while under the influence of marijuana.
*A Lynwood checkpoint on Dec. 19 resulted in 37 arrests.
Authorities arrested 28 unlicensed drivers, along with four drivers who were driving on suspended or revoked licenses.
Four drivers allegedly high on marijuana were arrested. Deputies arrested one driver for illegal possession of narcotics.
*Six people were arrested at a checkpoint in Bellflower on Dec. 20, including three drivers allegedly under the influence of marijuana and another driver intoxicated by alcohol.
One unlicensed driver and one motorist with a suspended or revoked license were also arrested.
