BELLFLOWER – Three-time Olympian Jeffrey Brian Powers has been selected as new head water polo and swimming coach at St. John Bosco, the school announced last week.
Powers was a member of the ’04, ’08 and ’12 U.S. men’s national team and a ’08 silver medalist in the Beijing Olympics. He is a three-time Pan American Games gold medalist and has extensive water polo professional club experience in Greece, Italy and Hungary.
“We are blessed to bring in someone with Jeff’s qualifications to guide our aquatics program,” said principal Casey Yeazel. “Not only does Jeff bring an impressive aquatics resume, but he is the type of man that will provide accompaniment for our student-athletes as they grow into men. We are excited for our players and for the future of St. John Bosco aquatics.”
Powers is a graduate of San Luis Obispo High School and UC Irvine. He and his wife, Kirsten, have 11-month-old twins, son Jeffrey Jr. and daughter Avery. The family resides in Los Alamitos.
“I look forward to joining the tremendously successful coaching staff at St. John Bosco and further developing both the water polo and swimming programs into major players in the Trinity League,” Powers said.
