Downey Adult School students Jessica Guardado, Katelyn Justice and Natalie Bloomfield have qualified to take the California Shorthand Reporters Examination on March 29. The exam is administered three times a year and is the equivalent to a bar exam. It is a two-day test, with academic subjects tested on one day and machine dictation a different day. To be eligible for the exam, students must have completed 660 hours of academic training in English, legal studies, medical terminology, court procedures, California codes and computer training. Students must also pass a 200-word per minute qualifier with four live readers with 97.5 percent accuracy.
