Charlotte Meier

Charlotte Meier passed into the hands of the Lord early on the morning of July 31st, surrounded by her husband of 71 years and her three daughters. She was born in the small town of Ord, Nebraska, on 04-15-19, the only child of Margaret and Frederick Blessing, DDS, and attended the Kearney State Teachers’ College. She met the love of her life, Woodrow “Woody” Meier, at the local malt shop and concluded her role as a kindergarten teacher once they married and he finished his medical studies at the University of Nebraska (Go Big Red!). They moved west where he began his general practice in East Los Angeles following discharge from the US Navy. Her love of community led her to membership and ultimately the presidency in many organizations including the Montebello PTA, Downey Assistance League, ARCS Los Angeles (Achievement Rewards for College Scientists, founder chapter), and Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge Los Angeles (founder chapter). She was also Ball Chairman for ARCS as well as for the National Charity League, Los Angeles (founder chapter), and a member of the Braille Institute, USC Town & Gown, Grace Presbyterian Church, and Montebello-Whittier Eastern Star. Her husband’s many activities on behalf of the medical staff at Beverly Hospital Montebello naturally led to her involvement as a member of the Board of Trustees, the Guild presidency, and recognition as the 1979 Woman of the Year. She was a voracious reader and crossword puzzle solver who also enjoyed her weekly bridge group and Bible study with friends. Her survivors include husband Woodrow W. Meier, MD, daughters Pamela Polito (Gregory), Patricia Scriven, and Penelope Sandberg, grandchildren Matthew Scriven (Claudia), Ashley Polito, Josh Scriven (Kaori), Mark Polito (Laureen), Scott Sandberg (Randi), Stephen Sandberg, and Jeffrey Sandberg. She has one namesake great granddaughter, Charlotte Sandberg. The private internment will be August 9th at Rose Hills. In lieu of flowers a donation to the American Cancer Society may be made in her name.
