COMPTON – Dominguez High School’s class of 1973 is reuniting this Saturday with a softball tournament fundraiser at the Compton Major League Urban Youth Academy.
The class has not reunited in 20 years. Saturday’s event is a fundraiser to help for a formal reunion planned Aug. 24 at Ports O’ Call in San Pedro.
The co-ed softball game is open to participants and spectators. Tickets are $10 at the gate.
The class of ’73 will challenge a team of alumni who graduated from Dominguez High between 1970-72 and in 1974.
Retired Dodgers outfielder Kenny Landreaux, a Dominguez High alumnus, will serve as honorary team captain. He joked that softball was chosen as the fundraiser he didn’t think “the team was in good enough shape to play a game of fast-pitch baseball.”
“I think it will be great to see everybody again, to catch up on our lives and see what we’ve all been doing,” Landreaux said. “If fellow alumni don’t want to play in the game, then it would be great to see them in the stands.”
The softball tournament begins at noon at the Urban Youth Academy, 901 E. Artesia Blvd. in Compton.
