WRITTEN BY :   Mark Fetter, Contributor

DOWNEY – The Warren High School boys’ volleyball team are the 2013 San Gabriel Valley League champions after finishing their regular season with an overall record of 18-7 and a league record of 8-0.
The Bears are currently ranked No. 3 in the C.I.F. Division III poll and, as a result, are No. 3 seed going into the C.I.F. Division III playoffs. Camarillo is the top seed, South Pasadena is the second seed, and Hemet is the fourth seed.
Warren opened up the playoffs by hosting and defeating Placentia Valencia (9-18) 25-20, 25-16 and 25-17 on Tuesday night. Last night, the Bears traveled to San Marino (18-10, 3-5) to take on the Titans in the second round of the playoffs (score unavailable at press time).
San Marino traveled to and defeated Paloma Valley 25-17, 25-21, 22-25 and 25-20 in their first round game in order to face Warren.
If Warren can get past San Marino in the second round, they will play again tomorrow against the winner of the Loara/Crossroads game. The semifinals are scheduled for next Wednesday and the C.I.F. Division III final is scheduled for a week from Saturday at Santiago Canyon College in Orange.
Coach Simons is very pleased with the progress of his team and how hard they continue to work. Senior libero Brian Oh, senior opposite Chris Buzo, senior outside hitter James Felix and sophomore setter Gary Trejo continue to lead the Bear playoff run.
