2 parolees arrested on weapons charges

DOWNEY - The Downey Police Department arrested two residents for non-weapon-related violations during a county-wide parole sweep on Aug. 26."Operation Disarm" targeted active parolees with prior or existing felony convictions for weapons. Approximately 332 locations throughout Los Angeles County were searched, including 14 locations in Downey. In 2009, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms traced 32,964 guns reccovered by California law enforcement agencies. Half of the guns were found in Los Angeles County, police officials said.
