Fifth-graders line up as they prepare to enter the Downey Theatre for a free Downey Symphony concert on April 16.

The Downey Symphony Guild is a fund raising arm of the Downey Symphonic Society. The Guild board works all year to raise money to donate to the Symphony and “Music in the Schools”. This is getting harder to accomplish each year. Many programs have been cut and more people are relying on the community to donate to their organizations. Our “Music in the Schools” project was started many years ago by one of our members. This program introduces Symphonic Music to Elementary School children. A quintet is sent, once a year, to each school in the Downey Unified School District to present a musical program in their auditorium. Then the third and fifth grades are treated to a concert in the Downey Theater.

Our mission is to keep our Symphony Orchestra around for another 57 years and continue to provide “Music in the Schools” for future generations.

We are asking everyone in Downey to help us with this goal. We need money to continue our projects. No donation is too small! Even $1 helps. If everyone in Downey participates we can keep our programs going for many more years. The Downey Symphony Guild will continue to raise money for the Downey Symphonic Society so it may continue to present the Downey Symphony Orchestra the same as always.

Donations can be mailed to:

We thank you in advance for you generosity.
