Author Terry McMillan to speak, sign books

CARSON - In honor of Black History Month, Cal State Dominguez Hills will welcome bestselling author Terry McMillan to its campus for a lecture and book-signing on Feb. 15 at 6 p.m.The event is free and open to the public. McMillan is the author of eight novels, including bestsellers "Waiting to Exhale" and "How Stella Got Her Groove Back," both of which were adapted to the screen. Her latest novel, "Getting to Happy," is a sequel to "Waiting to Exhale." McMillan's books are known for their strong African American female characters and for tackling themes of friendship, relationships and self-realization. She is a graduate of UC Berkeley and taught in the English department at the University of Arizona. McMillan will be speaking about the power of the written word, as well as reading excerpts from her novels, and signing books. The University Bookstore will have copies of her books for purchase at the event. Cal State Dominguez Hills is located at 1000 E. Victoria Street in Carson.
