Bad time to close

Dear Editor:One of the saddest, and the most cruel and insensitive things I can remember, was the Christmas closing of All-American Home Center when Downey's economy is struggling and jobs are hard to find. The tragedy was the owner felt no obligation to those who had devoted most of their working lives to make the store a success. You could find things there you could not find elsewhere, or you had to travel a long way to find. Surely the owner could have waited past Christmas and sold. It would have been a blow to the owner's dad who devoted his life to it, and who felt an obligation to the employees. -- James Hawkins, Downey
