Cecil Muchmore was police officer, pilot

DOWNEY - Cecil Loy Muchmore, an aviator who spent more than 30 years in a law enforcement career, passed away Jan. 28. He was 91. Muchmore was born in Utica, Kans. on April 19, 1917. He came to California at 17 and worked for Safeway grocers.He met his wife of 69 years, Neoma, at a local dance. He later served in the navy as a medic and joined the LAPD as a motorcycle officer. Muchmore played the saxophone in the police marching band and orchestra. He later worked for Los Angeles Harbor in boat patrol, flew helicopters and worked LAX security for a combined police career of 31 years. With a penchant for flying, he owned and operated his own plane for more than 50 years. He was also a member of Downey Moravian Church for more than 50 years. He is survived by his wife, Neoma; daughters Nichol Siemens and Karen Schaefer; and grandchildren Cassidy, Kathelyn, Ryan, Natalie, Garrett and Sophia. A family gathering was held Tuesday at Downey Zrelak Family Mortuary.
