CERT training begins in April

DOWNEY - The Downey Fire Department will begin training sessions next month for residents wishing to join the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT).CERT members respond to disasters in their neighborhood. They assess damage after a disaster, extinguish small fires, perform light search and rescue operations, organize procurement of supplies, organize a triage and provide medical services to the injured. Residents must be at least 18 year of age to become a CERT member. Attendance at three training sessions April 10, April 17 and April 24, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., is mandatory.
