Claudia Frometa, Giggy Saab lead in early results (UPDATING)

DOWNEY — Claudia Frometa maintained an early lead over Carrie Uva in the race for Downey’s fourth district City Council seat, early Wednesday morning.


With 12 of 16 precincts reporting, Frometa had collected 2,244 votes to Uva’s 2,012.


Tony Hernandez-Ayala, the third candidate who did virtually zero campaigning, had 466 votes.


The winner will replace Fernando Vasquez, who is being termed out of office after eight years on the City Council.


In the school board race, Giggy Saab led Carlos Avalos by a slim margin.


With 8 of 10 precincts reporting, Saab had 1,660 votes to Avalos’ 1,504.


Both are seeking to fulfill the term of Willie Gutierrez, who resigned his school board seat earlier this year to move to Long Beach.

UPDATE 1: Giggy Saab appears on her way to victory. With 9 of 10 precincts reporting, she holds a 173 vote lead over Carlos Avalos.


Claudia Frometa leads Carrie Uva by 284 votes with two precincts left to count.


UPDATE 2: Claudia Frometa is poised to win this election.

With 15 of 16 precincts reporting, Frometa had 2,610 votes to Uva’s 2,285.


UPDATE 3: It’s official, Claudia Frometa and Giggy Saab have won their respective races.
