Cleo Latimer passes away, services Tuesday

DOWNEY – Cleo Catherine Latimer passed away Jan. 6 at her home in Downey with family present. Latimer was a longtime Downey resident and kindergarten teacher. She was born May 29, 1920, in Hillsview, South Dakota.

She began teaching at Old River School in Downey in 1950. She soon moved to Rives Avenue School and finished her 30-year teaching career at Spencer Williams School.

Latimer was also a well-known community leader and former president of the Friends of the Downey City Library. She was a board member and secretary of the Aerospace Legacy Foundation for many years.

She preceded in death by her husband, Warren W. Latimer, in 2011, and is survived by five children, nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Services are at St. Raymond’s Catholic Church in Downey on Tuesday, Jan. 20, at 10:30 a.m.
