Crime Report: 1/8/19

Friday, December 21:

Between 8 pm and 2:30 am, officers conducted a DUI checkpoint on Imperial at Rives Ave. The following is a summary of the checkpoint:

  • 1,366 - Vehicles stopped

  • 2- DUI arrests

  • 9- Field sobriety tests administered

  • 40 – Traffic citations issued for unlicensed driver

  • 13- Traffic citations issued for driving with a suspended driver’s license

  • 18- Vehicles impounded


At 8:50 pm, officers responded to a single vehicular traffic collision at Woodruff and Florence. The vehicle had crashed and knocked down the Edison power pole causing power outages in the area. No alcohol was involved and driver was issued a citation. Edison responded to restore power.


Saturday, December 22:

Between 10 pm and 3 am, officers worked the Downtown area. During that time, officers issued two (2) municipal code citations, two (2) traffic citations, and one (1) citation for possession of alcohol by a minor.

Sunday, December 23:

At 6 am, a Downey Officer observed a motorcyclist commit a stop sign violation at La Reina and 3rd St. The officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop and the motorcycle fled. The pursuit was terminated after a very short distance. Detectives are investigating.

At 5:40 pm, officers were dispatched to 12145 Woodruff in regards to a theft report. Upon arrival, officers learned that unknown suspect(s) entered the property and removed four (4) catalytic converters off of four (4) passenger buses. The suspects fled the location with the loss. Detectives are investigating. Forensics will also be reviewing potential video evidence of the crime.


Friday, December 28:

At 5:15 pm, officers located a vehicle used in a robbery in South Gate the previous week. Downey officers stopped the vehicle and detained the female occupant. South Gate responded to conduct their follow-up investigation.

From 10:30 pm until 2:30 am, officers worked a foot beat in the downtown area. They issued 10 citations for drinking in public, 2 for public urination and 1 parking citation. They also made one arrest for DUI.


Saturday, December 29:

From 10:30 pm until 2:30 am, officers worked a foot beat in the downtown area. They issued 6 municipal code citations , 1 traffic citation and arrested one person for a narcotics violation.


Sunday, December 30:

At 5:45 loss prevention personnel at the Neighborhood Walmart at 12270 Paramount Blvd attempted to stop and detain a male and female suspected of shoplifting. A struggle ensued and the male suspect tased the loss prevention employee. The suspects fled in a vehicle. Detectives are investigating.

At 6:30 pm, a male entered Baby Bros. Pizza at 9641 Lakewood and demanded money from the cash register. The suspect fled the location and was not immediately located. At 7:06 pm, a male entered the Arco Gas Station at 10330 Lakewood and demanded money from the cash register. Officers located the man in the area and after a brief foot chase, the suspect was detained. The 32-year-old Los Angeles man was identified as the suspect in both crimes.
