Crime Report: May 23, 2016

Friday, May 13:
At 1:30 PM, a suspect entered the Metro PCS Store in the 13500 block of Lakewood Blvd and asked to see two cellular phones. He then brandished a handgun, took the phones, and fled on foot.

At 4:30 PM, officers responded on a fight call at Apollo Park and upon their arrival they observed a male subject burying an object in the ground. Officers contacted him and discovered the subject was hiding a gun. Further investigation showed the subject fit the description of the robbery suspect from Metro PCS. The suspect ultimately admitted to committing the robbery and was arrested.

With a grant provided by ABC (Alcohol Beverage Control) our Special Enforcement Team (SET) and investigators from ABC conducted an operation in the Downtown area from 7:00 PM until 1:00 AM. No violations were observed.

Saturday, May 14:
At 2:05 AM, officers responded to a man armed with a handgun at the Pow Wow Bar (9560 Firestone Blvd). Upon arrival, officers detained the suspect, a 33-year-old male Downey resident, who was bleeding from his forehead. Witnesses advised the suspect was involved in a fight with several subjects. He subsequently went to his vehicle and returned, armed with a handgun. Several bar patrons tackled the suspect and disarmed him prior to police arrival. He was arrested for unlawful possession of a firearm.

Sunday, May 15:
At 12:55 AM, a 44-year-old Huntington Park resident was working on a house in the 8800 block of Elston when a former co-worker approached him and an argument over past wages ensued. During the dispute, the suspect swung a shovel at the victim three times without striking the victim. The suspect fled the scene. Detectives are investigating.

Monday, May 16:
At 2:20 AM, officers responded to a traffic collision at the intersection of Old River School Rd and Irwingrove. Upon arrival, they found the driver had collided into several parked vehicles. The driver was intoxicated and as he stood up to attempt field sobriety tests, he fell forward onto the ground and hit his head. DFD responded and transported him to Kaiser where he received medical treatment for his injuries. He was later transported to the police station for booking on DUI charges.

At 6:50 AM, a male subject was observed by the homeowner trying to force his way into the
homeowner’s residence through a rear window, in the 9000 block of Adoree. The homeowner called police and the suspect fled on foot but was later located by responding officers and arrested for attempted burglary.
