Daggett pleads no-contest to having child porn

DOWNEY - Downey resident Richard Daggett, charged with multiple felony counts of possession of child pornography, agreed to a plea deal with prosecutors last week, pleading no contest July 7 to a single misdemeanor charge.Daggett was immediately sentenced to one day in jail and a year of probation, officials with the Los Angeles County District Attorney's office said. He was given credit for time served and released. As part of a plea deal, Daggett, 70, was required to register with the Downey Police Department as a sex offender, police and district attorney officials said. Last month, Downey Police announced that charges had been filed against Daggett after a search warrant allegedly revealed evidence of child pornography on his computer and "other digital media." Daggett denied the charges. Daggett is president of the Polio Survivors Association and has volunteered extensively at Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center.
