DOWNEY – Former Warren High basketball standout Danielle Rodriguez is a nominee for the 2016 Allstate WBCA Good Works Team, which recognizes women’s college basketball players for their community service work.

Rodriguez graduated from Warren in 2012. She is now a guard for the University of Utah, where she organizes several community projects, including “Lunch for the Lunchless,” which provides lunch to more than 300 homeless people.

Rodriguez also organized two canned food drives; a box top fundraiser for a local elementary school; a shampoo and conditioner fundraiser for community donation; two blood drives; two high school registrations; and two Pennies for Patient-Leukemia and Lymphoma Society events.

She also delivers sandwiches and water to the homeless on weekends; speaks to underprivileged middle school girls about the importance of getting a college education; and volunteers with Operation Christmas Child, the local veterans hospital and the Special Olympics.

Rodriguez is currently working to implement a project called Dog Days of Winter, a dog-walking service for elderly pet owners during the winter months.

From this year’s record 103 nominees, a final roster of 10 award recipients will be announced in February.
