DOWNEY -- Downey Cemetery will host a Memorial Day ceremony May 30 at 11 a.m.

The ceremony will feature a wreath-laying; rifle salute by American Legion Post 270; speakers from the Downey Police Department; songs by Ward, Price and Stauffer ASPIRE students; the reading of winning essays written by elementary students; and the playing of Taps.

The essay contest was open to Lewis Elementary fourth and fifth graders, as well as Stauffer Middle School students enrolled in the ASPIRE after-school program.

The ceremony will take place at the Veteran's Memorial Wall and will last about one hour.
