Downey City Library's upcoming events

DOWNEY -- The Downey City Library has several public events scheduled this month, including a "Mini Comic Con" on July 29. 

Below is a schedule of events: 

July 13: Songs of the Wild Animal Show

Pacific Animal Productions will present a program on the sounds of the rainforest, mountain, desert and more. Visitors can also meet some wild animals. 

This event takes place in the Downey Theatre at 2:30 p.m. Overflow parking available at Downey High.

July 13: Name Your Hero Essay Contest

Bring your completed essay about someone who made a difference in your life. Share your hero story and vote on the winners, who will receive prizes. 

This event will take place in the library's Cormack Room at 6:30 p.m. 

July 15: Stop Motion Movie Making for Teens and Tweens

Using downloaded software and smart phones, learn how to make your own movie using your Android or iPhone. Get creative and bring any action figures or props you would like to use. 

This event will take place in the library's Cormack Room from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. 

July 29: Mini Comic Con for all ages

The library will host a comic book convention from 12-5 p.m. with vendors, activities, workshops, costume contests, and more. All while supplies last, some programs require registration due to room capacity.
