Downey Unified plans first School Meal Expo

Downey Unified will host its first-ever School Meal Expo on March 25, an opportunity for the public to personally taste the food fed daily to Downey students.

The expo, which is free and open to everyone, will be held in the Downey High cafeteria from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Guests will rotate through various taste-testing stations, featuring homemade entrees, authentic gourmet tamales, antibiotic-free chicken tenders, fresh grilled 100 percent beef hamburger, and more.

In total, more than 20 different meals items will be available for tastings.

There will also be stations promoting healthy eating, the school lunch program, and information on an online meal payment system.

Each family in attendance will receive a goodie bag, and there will raffles for a variety of prizes, including three bikes.
