Downey wrestlers capture CIF championship

DOWNEY –  The Downey High School wrestling team captured the 2017 C.I.F. Northern Division wrestling championship last weekend at Grand Terrace High School by scoring 191.5 points.

The Vikings outscored Righetti (181), Bloomington (151), Santa Fe (110.5) and cross-town rival Warren (108.5), respectively, to earn the coveted title. This was the first C.I.F. Individual Championship in school history.

Downey had eight wrestlers place and five advance to the Master’s Meet competition this weekend at the Citizens Bank Arena in Ontario. The Vikings had four wrestlers claim C.I.F. individual champion honors.

Jonathan Prata (106) took first place and was selected lower weight M.V.P. after recording four pins.
