Fundraiser planned for college employee

NORWALK - Cerritos College will host a pancake breakfast fundraiser June 12 for a part-time employee who remains hospitalized with brain injuries following a car accident. The fundraiser will be held from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. in the Cerritos College Student Center. The crash happened March 11 when the vehicle Lizeth Pimentel was driving plunged off the 710 Freeway and into the Los Angeles River. Pimentel's condition, although stable, remains critical, officials with Cerritos College said. "Lizeth has been a valued employee of the college for the last five years," said Dr. Linda Lacy, president and superintendent of Cerritos College. "She touched the lives of many college staff, faculty and community members in giving of her time and caring assistance to countless adult learners in our community." Pimental is the mother of a four-year-old daughter, Jacquelyn. Pimental also serves as a caregiver to her brother, who has special needs. "Through this fundraiser, we will be able to help Lizeth and her family with everyday living expenses," Lacy said. Tickets to the pancake breakfast are $5 for adults and $2 for children under 5. Tickets may be purchased at the door. The event will also include raffles for prizes such as computers, computer programs and more.
