Funeral held for Michael Monaco

DOWNEY - Longtime resident Michael Monaco died Dec. 31, 2009. He was 71.Monaco was born Dec. 26, 1938 in Brooklyn, N.Y. His family moved to Downey in 1952. He graduated from Downey High School in 1956 and attended Long Beach State, graduating in 1963 with a degree in business. After college, he joined the Air Force and was accepted into Officer Candidate School. He served his country honorably and was discharged at the rank of captain. He started working in the business forms industry for BSI, NCR and Wespac Business Systems. In 1983, he bought Wespac which he operated until his death. Monaco belonged to a number of business forms associations, and was a member of Rotary and Unico. He also served on the cable advisory board for the city of Downey. He was preceded in death by his parents, Vincent and Nancy Monaco; sister, Emily Monaco Hunphries; and his daughter, Gina Monaco. He is survived by his wife, Linda Monaco; stepdaughter, Margaret Evans; son-in-law, Bill McIntosh; grandchildren, Dana, Nathan and Andy McIntosh; and nephew, Vincent Humphries. A funeral Mass was held at St. Raymond's Catholic Church on Jan. 7. Burial was at Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier.
