January 30, 1954 - July 20, 2016

Gemma M. Martin, (62) passed away peacefully at her home in Downey on Wednesday, July 20, 2016, after her three year battle with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. She was surrounded by her loving family.

Gemma was born on January 30, 1954, in Guadalajara, Mexico, but lived her life in Downey.

She is survived by her parents Pedro and Micaela Martin, her brothers Rick (Lupe), Raul (Sherry), Carlos (Debbie), Pedro (Roberta), Danny, twins Eddie (Denise) and Michael (Zarai), and Robert John (Teena) and her sisters Theresa (Agustin Martin), Irene (Bobby Romero), Cathy (Arturo Fuentes), Rosa (Abel Gonzalez) and Christie Martin, along with 43 nieces and nephews and 18 great nieces and nephews.

She never married but she was a mother to her sister Christie, and a second mom to her nieces and nephews. She was kind and loving to all and will be missed by countless family and friends. She loved to read, bowl, watch sports and old movies. She enjoyed history and traveling and spending time with her family.

She is a graduate of Pius X High School, Downey (Class of ’72).

Gemma co-owned and operated the family business in Lynwood, CA.

Services will be held at St. Raymond’s Catholic Church on Friday, July 29th, followed by burial at All Souls Cemetery in Long Beach. Arrangements by Miller Mies Downey Mortuary.
