Gunmen rob Downey jewelry store

DOWNEY - Two armed gunmen robbed a local jewelry store this week and escaped with an undisclosed amount of merchandise, police officials said.The two gunmen entered Zain's Jewelry & Repair, 10337 Lakewood Blvd., at about 10:15 a.m. Tuesday, said Sgt. Alex Irizibal with the Downey Police Department. The gunmen forced the person working inside to the back of the store. It was unclear if the person working was an employee or the store's owner. After receiving merchandise, the gunmen fled and were gone by the time police arrived, Irizibal said. The store was conducting an inventory to determine exactly how much was taken, said Irizibal. No injuries were reported and a description of the suspects was not immediately available. Irizibal said detectives are investigating the case.
