Latest Crime Report

The Crime Report is provided by the Downey Police Department. Saturday, Feb. 14:

At 12:30 a.m., detectives from a local Narcotics Task Force requested a uniformed presence while serving a search warrant in the 12900 block of Hanwell Ave.  The warrant was executed without incident.  A Downey Police K-9 assisted and detectives located approximately 18 kilograms of cocaine and approximately $500,000.00 in U.S. currency.

At 5:40 p.m., officers responded to the 7800 block of Bairnsdale Avenue regarding a burglary investigation.  When officers arrived they spoke with the residents who reported they had returned home and found their home had been ransacked. They reported several of their personal belongings had been stolen. Detectives are investigating.

At 7:30 p.m., officers responded to the area of Downey Ave and Florence Ave regarding a stolen vehicle investigation.  When officers arrived they spoke with two victims who reported they had been sitting inside their vehicle when a male suspect approached the vehicle. The suspect pointed a revolver-type handgun at the victims and demanded the vehicle. The victims exited the vehicle and the suspect fled with the vehicle, eastbound Florence out of sight. A few hours later Bell Gardens PD located the vehicle via their License Plate Reader system. The vehicle yielded and 2 suspects were detained in the vehicle. Downey units responded to the scene of the traffic stop and took custody of the suspects. One was arrested for armed robbery (carjacking), and the other for being under the influence of narcotics.

 

Sunday, Feb. 15: 

At 7:30 p.m., officers responded to the intersection of Downey Ave and Imperial Hwy regarding a traffic collision.  When the officers arrived they saw that a broad side collision had occurred and 10 people had suffered minor injuries.  One of the adult drivers involved in the collision was found to be under the influence and was transported to St. Francis Medical Center for medical clearance.  The suspect was cleared by medical personnel and once at the police station she was booked for driving under the influence.
