Mildred Toerge passes away at home

DOWNEY - Mildred (Millie) E. Toerge, after suffering many years from complications of diabetes, passed away Dec. 26 at her Downey home while surrounded by her husband and sons.She enjoyed a joyous Christmas morning before passing, family members said. She was born Nov. 27, 1934 in Sinton, Tex., to George and Florence Lee. The family moved to Los Angeles where she met and married George E. Toerge on Sept. 13, 1952. As her children grew older, Toerge commenced a part-time career selling lingerie on the party plan for Jere-Mere. She was a top saleswoman and was crowned Miss Jere-Mere in 1967. She later opened an antique store where she pursued her passion for collectable antiques. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, George; and sons, Robert and Michael. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Edith, Georgia and George Jr. Services will be held Jan. 14 at 10 a.m. at Downey Memorial Christian Church, with a reception to follow.
