Police seek motive in gang shooting

DOWNEY - A 20-year-old Downey man was shot and killed last week in a shooting police believe was gang-related.Downey police were dispatched to a shots fired call at an apartment complex on the 12500 block of Old River School Road last Saturday at about 9:25 p.m. Officers found Gerardo Fernandez suffering from a gun shot wound. Downey paramedics transported him to a local hospital where he was listed in critical condition but died the next day. Detectives say Fernandez was confronted by two people in the parking lot of Alberto's restaurant moments before the shooting. The motive for the shooting is unknown but detectives think the incident was likely gang-related.
