Retired police officer to speak

DOWNEY -- Retired Downey police officer and driver education instructor Steve Guthrie will be the guest speaker at Monday's OASIS meeting at Downey Adult School.OASIS (Older Adults Seeking Information and Skills) meetings are held at 3:45 p.m. inside the Harriett Paine Event Center. Registration is free. Guthrie was a police officer for 35 years, 30 of which were in traffic enforcement. He has been teaching traffic law, driver education and mature driving for 15 years. Guthrie will update the class on new laws, and provide tips to become "mature drivers, passengers and pedestrians in today's traffic." Class enrollment begins at 2:45 p.m., at which time guests can purchase an optional dinner ticket for $3.50. Downey Dial-a-Ride will provide transportation to qualifying residents.
