Roybal-Allard statement on Ezell Ford autopsy

Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard (CA-40) issued the following statement about the release of the autopsy of Ezell Ford, who was shot and killed in August by LAPD officers in the South Los Angeles area of her Congressional District: “It is critical that Ezell Ford’s death be investigated thoroughly and impartially. That is why I thank Mayor Garcetti for ordering the release of Mr. Ford’s autopsy results. This is an important step in making the fullest possible accounting of the circumstances surrounding Mr. Ford’s death.

“I also urge any and all witnesses to his death to come forward without delay, so that we have a clear and accurate picture of this event. I will continue to monitor the ongoing investigations into this tragedy.

“My thoughts and prayers are with Mr. Ford’s family, as they are with the family of Omar Abrego, who also died after an encounter with police in my District in August.

“I fully support the mission of our nation’s law enforcement personnel to protect and serve the American people. At the same time, their work must always be done in a manner that respects the law and the rights of the people they protect. I also continue to support the right of the people to peacefully and legally express their First Amendment rights – including the right to assemble – in response to these deaths.”
