Sobhy Gad Makary mourned by family

DOWNEY -- Sobhy Gad Makary, a Downey resident since 1981, passed away Feb. 26.Makary was born July 24, 1925 in Egypt and was married to the late Viola Makary. He came to the United Sates in 1974 and moved to Downey in 1981. He worked as a cabinet maker until he was hurt in 1984. He enjoyed making things for his church, including wooden offering boxes and framed holy pictures. He is survived by his four children, Mark, Eivon, Richard and Isis; and grandchildren, Peter, John, Miriam, Daniel, Amanda, David, Youstina, Krystal, Kativon and Verena. Funeral services were held Wednesday at St. George Coptic Orthodox Church Bellflower.
