DOWNEY – The Downey High School baseball team currently has an overall record of 12-14 and are 4-3 in S.G.V.L. play. Downey scored two runs in the top of the third inning and held Paramount scoreless in the bottom of the third. Downey led 4-1 after three innings of play. Neither Downey or Paramount scored in the fourth inning so the score remained 4-1 Downey. The Vikings pushed across another run in the top of the fifth inning and took a 5-1 lead into the bottom of the fifth. Paramount scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth and pulled to within 5-3.

Downey added three more runs in the top of the sixth inning to pull ahead 8-3.The Vikings held the Pirated scoreless in the bottom of the sixth inning. There were no runs scored in the seventh inning and Downey won 8-3. The two teams will meet again on Friday at Downey to conclude their two game series.

The Downey High School softball team currently has an overall record of 12-12 and are 4-3 in S.G.V.L. play.

The Lady Vikings were defeated by cross-town rival Warren at Warren 8-1 on Tuesday in the rematch of their game from 4/16. Warren won the first game 4-2 and completed the season sweep with Tuesday’s win.

Downey played Gahr yesterday (score unavailable at press time) and will conclude their regular season schedule after they host Paramount on Tuesday and travel to Dominguez on Thursday.

It appears that Downey will receive the number three entry from the San Gabriel Valley League in the upcoming C.I.F. Division 3 playoffs. Gahr and Warren will earn the number one and two entries, respectively, after they split their season series against each other and swept Downey.

The Lady Vikings have a team batting average of .335, an on base percentage of .418, have hit eight home runs, have stolen 48 bases, have a team ERA of 2.22 and have a team fielding percentage of .932.

Head coach Micah Karzen has a young team this year. Karzen has four freshmen, five sophomores and three juniors returning next year with more experience and skill under their belts. The Lady Vikings are currently ranked 132nd in the Southern Section and 27th in Division 3.

The Warren High School baseball team currently has an overall record of 20-8 and are 5-2 in S.G.V.L. play.

The Bears defeated Dominguez at Warren 13-1 on 4/28 and defeated the Dons again 11-0 at Dominguez on 4/30 to complete the home and away season sweep.

Warren defeated Lynwood (2-5) at Lynwood 4-0 on Tuesday and will conclude their away and home series later today at Warren. The Bears will finish their regular season next week with two games against Paramount.

The Bears (5-2) can still earn a piece of the San Gabriel Valley League title if they can win their remaining three games. Paramount (5-2) stands in the way of the Bears’ league title hopes. If Warren can defeat Lynwood at Warren later today and win both games against Paramount next week, Warren and Gahr will tie for the league title.

If Paramount can defeat Downey at Downey later today and win both games against Warren next week, Paramount and Gahr will tie for the league title. If Warren and Paramount split their games, Gahr is the league champion outright.

It appears Gahr (5-2) has the inside track to the league title with one game against Dominguez (0-7) at Dominguez later today (score unavailable at press time) and two games against Lynwood next week. Things are certainly heating up in San Gabriel Valley League play. The C.I.F. Division 2 playoffs are just around the corner.

The Warren High School softball team currently has an overall record of 20-4 and are 6-1 in S.G.V.L. play.

The Bears defeated cross-town rival Downey at Warren 8-1 on Tuesday to complete the season sweep. Warren won the first game at Downey 4-2 on 4/16.

The Bears were defeated by Gahr at Gahr 3-2 last Thursday in the second of their two league games. Gahr also holds a 6-1 league record with their only loss coming to the Bears at Warren 5-3 on 4/14.

It appears as though Warren and Gahr will once again share the San Gabriel Valley League title. Both teams finished league play last season with 9-1 records and advanced to the C.I.F. Division 3 playoffs. The one difference this year, however, is that Gahr defeated Warren in the second round of league play and will most likely earn the league’s number one entry.

Last season, Warren won the second round league game and earned the number one league entry.

Warren played Dominguez at Dominguez on Thursday (score unavailable at press time). The Bears will conclude league play after they host Lynwood on Tuesday and Paramount on Thursday.

Gahr played Downey at Gahr on Thursday (score unavailable at press time). The Gladiators will conclude league play after they travel to Dominguez on Tuesday and Lynwood on Thursday. Warren can still win an outright championship if Downey defeated Gahr on Thursday.
