Student garden sprouts at Ward Elementary

DOWNEY - Downey Federal Credit Union officiated at the recent launch of the Character Counts Garden in the courtyard at Ward Elementary School.The garden will be cared for by Ward students, and be a constant reminder of the six pillars of character, including trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship. In addition, the garden will provide an opportunity for students to learn about botany and teamwork, as well as providing physical activity. Downey Federal Credit Union placed a decorative stone in the garden showing the partnership between the credit union and its adopted school. "We are so pleased at the close relationship we have developed with Downey Federal Credit Union," said Jennifer Robbins, principal of Ward Elementary. "The garden symbolizes a joint effort and a true team spirit that will enrich the lives of the students and teachers." Barbara Lamberth, CEO of Downey Federal Credit Union, agreed. "We are pleased to continue to have a partnership with Ward Elementary School and encourage young people to learn in new ways," she said.
