Teen honored at debutante ball

DOWNEY – Downey teen Emilia Constantina Mariolis was one of 17 debutantes honored by the Greek Orthodox Christian community and Saint Sophia Philoptohos Society (SSPS) of Los Angeles last month. Emilia, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Emilios Mariolis, was presented as a debutante of the Greek Orthodox Christian community and represented the Downey church of Saint George.

The ceremony took place at the 51st annual Debutante Ball, held at the Four Seasons Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills.

Being a debutante a demarcation that Emilia has embarked on a life-long journey of giving back to society. She currently volunteers her time to the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life, the Midnight Mission and to her church’s Greek Festival.

The ball is the largest fundraiser for the SSPS and raises funds to benefit the society’s sponsored charities, including the Los Angeles Mission, Kids ‘n’ Cancer, and international orthodox Christian charities.

The event was hosted by “Days of Our Lives” star Thaao Penghlis.
