Volunteers needed to count Downey’s homeless

DOWNEY – Volunteers are needed to help count Downey’s homeless population Jan. 27. The count will take place from 8-11 p.m.

Volunteers will show up at the deployment center at 8 p.m., get trained for about an hour, get a map and go out in teams to literally count the number of homeless people in their map area.

Volunteers will then return to the deployment center to drop off their sheets and flashlights.

Persons under 18 are welcome to participate as long as they have their parents’ consent.

For details, go to TheyCountWillYou.org and click the “volunteer” button.

The homeless count is taken every two years, and it enables private and public agencies to identify resources and better assist homeless families and individuals.
