Warren's Homecoming with a New Twist

"A Night of the Golden Dragon" is this year's theme for Warren High School's Homecoming Dance, taking place on Saturday, Oct. 24, from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. at the local Rio Hondo Country Club. Students are thrilled for another fun-filled night, expectedly, as the Homecoming Dance is always popular amongst the student body population. Particularly with this unique theme, which A.S.B. had democratically decided, a new twist is added to encourage students to attend the first traditional school dance of the year."The theme was inspired by the endless possibilities related to a Chinese theme," said Dance Commissioner Deanna Kim. "A.S.B. decided that decorating the country club with fans, lanterns, a golden dragon, and banners would create a different approach to homecoming, as well as a memorable night." On the night of the dance, the Rio Hondo Country Club will be festively decorated with the dominating colors of red, gold and black to emulate the aura of a Chinese New Year's festival. In anticipation of a large number of attendees to this dance, the dance hall will be cleared and expanded in order to accommodate all the students. In addition, a separate designated area will be provided for drinks and refreshments for the students. A professional Jostens photo booth for couples and groups will also be available. "Warren High School is trying to have annual homecoming dances at Rio Hondo to make this country club a traditional spot," said Kim. This year will be the second time that Warren will host its Homecoming Dance at the country club, thanks to the success of the event last year. In addition, by having the Homecoming Dance at a local location, the prices for the tickets can be lower and more affordable, so that many students at Warren will be able to attend this memorable night. The starting cost of the tickets was only $30, with an A.S.B. card, although the prices were increased in small increments weekly. Truly, such a theme is a first at Warren High School, and has been effective in attracting quite a few of the students, who seemed to be excited for the dance. "I'm very enthusiastic about this year's Homecoming," said junior Nigel Adashefski. "And curious to see how this year's theme will affect the way people dress." Warren High School has also been promoting the dance through other means, such as the Homecoming Fashion Show. The fashion show consists of senior students who perform a dance during lunch in "Homecoming attire," or dresses and suits, in order to pump up the students about the upcoming event. There is also the Homecoming game the night before the dance, where the Homecoming court and the King and Queen is revealed.
