Five local businesses have signed on as "charter" sponsors of the Downey's first Dia de los Muertos Festival on Nov. 3, officials have announced.
The family-friendly festival will be held at the Downey Theatre and includes live music and a dance floor, a children's interactive area, an art exhibit, altar displays, food court, beer and wine garden, clowns, and more.
Charter sponsors include CareMore, Downey Federal Credit Union, El Super grocery chain, Ford and Funereal del Angel.
CareMore's Dwayne Jenkins, who frequently sponsors city events such as the summertime concerts at Furman Park, said it's "good for business to have a presence at local events that bring the community together for a day of enjoyment."
Lee Wade of L.A.-based Events Marketing secured the sponsors and said that "to get sponsors of this stature right out of the box shows their level of enthusiasm for the festival and the generosity of the local business community."
Wade added that in an increasingly digital world, "It's experience and a sense of community that consumers value."
