Police are investigating a theory that today's shooting was drug-related, possibly a "drug hit," sources said.

One of the victims, a mother, was kidnapped and fatally shot in front of her son, sources said. The son sustained a gunshot wound to the arm.

There are two active crime scenes: one at a business on Cleta Street and at a home about a block away.

MediaNews reporter Sandra Molina says police are searching for a 2010 black Camaro, which is registered to one of the victims.

"We were saddened to learn that a shooting has occurred in the city of Downey," Mayor Roger Brossmer said in a statement. "The investigation is still underway, and many details are not yet clear."
