The staff at CrossFit Downey, the exercise facility at 8232 Firestone Blvd., is hosting a snowflake drive to lift the spirits of students at Sandy Hook Elementary.

Residents are invited to stop by the fitness center this Saturday at 9 a.m. to help cut out paper snowflakes, which will be sent to the National PTA and used as part of a winter wonderland for Sandy Hook students.

"It is with heavy hearts and the deepest sympathy that we express our condolences to the families affected by the tragic shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary," CrossFit Downey wrote on Facebook. "Any kind gesture, big or small, makes a difference in the lives of these children and we'd love our CFD family to help out!"

Residents are invited to bring their entire families to help out.
