Electricity is down in parts of Downey but it's unclear if it is related to a fire earlier this afternoon behind the downtown bus depot.

The fire was reported about 3 p.m. near the railroad tracks on Nance Street. The cause of the fire wasn't immediately clear.

Power outages were reported at about 5 p.m. Southern California Edison attributed the outages to "equipment problems" but was not more specific.

More than 1,400 customers were affected, Edison said.

The power was still out as of 5:55 p.m.
