The Downey Police Department will conduct a DUI and driver's license checkpoint at an undisclosed location in Downey on March 15 between 8 p.m. and 3 a.m.
Drivers passing through the checkpoint will be checked for signs of impairment. Officers will also ensure drivers are properly licensed.
"Over the course of the past three years, there have been 333 DUI related traffic collisions in the city of Downey," said police chief Carl Charles. "These DUI traffic collisions have claimed three lives and resulted in 83 injury crashes harming 140 of our friends and neighbors."
Funding for the checkpoint is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
