Two people were stabbed and shot to death after an early morning altercation at George's Bar spilled onto Florence Avenue.

The victims are two men in their 30s, said Lt. Mark McDaniel of the Downey Police Department.

McDaniel said police officers were dispatched to George's Bar after receiving reports of a stabbing.

The altercation began in the bar's parking lot but spilled onto the street, McDaniel said. The shooting occurred outside Tacos Mexico.

The victims died at a local hospital.

Local residents reported hearing several gunshots shortly after 2 a.m.

A press release is expected to be released later this morning. A portion of Florence Avenue near Tweedy Lane remained closed as of 9:30 a.m.
