Downey's Daniel Kosakowski, currently the 247th-ranked tennis player in the world, will compete today in the first round of matches at the Costa Mesa Pro Classic.
Kosakowski, 20, will pair with Poway native Bradley Klahn in doubles competition against Europeans Marek Michalicka and Alexander Satschko.
Part of the United States Tennis Association's Pro Circuit, the competition features 32 singles players and 16 doubles teams, with all players seeking to boost their world tennis ranking.
Kosakowski's match is scheduled to begin on court 4 after 2 p.m. at the Costa Mesa Tennis Center.
