The Columbia Memorial Space Center will host another of its Saturday Science programs this Saturday. The topic: rockets.
The Chinese invented the rocket as a firework, and eventually adapted its frightening abilities to a weapon of war, says Jared Head, who will lead the presentation.
It wasn’t until the Cold War when the weapon was adapted to a peaceful purpose: exploration of space.
“We’ll cover where rockets came from, how rockets work, today’s modern arsenal of rockets and how you can witness a rocket launch,” says Head. Visitors will also be able to handle actual flown rockets in-person.
The program begins at 1 p.m. Admission is only $5 (kids ages 3 and under are free).
