Downey’s Roy Anthony Shabla may be best known locally for his writing. An accomplished author and poet, he has published more than half a dozen books, both fiction and non-fiction.
But it will be Shabla’s artistic skills that will be on exhibit tonight as he leads a painting workshop at Rio San Gabriel Park starting at 7 p.m.
According to the Downey Arts Coalition, “Shabla is arguably one of the most unique artists in Downey’s borders. His paintings are often large format abstract expressionism, exploring various pour techniques, texture and color combinations to a powerful effect.”
The workshop is free and open to the public. It will take place inside the park’s activity room.
