A rally is planned outside Los Angeles County Office of Education headquarters in Downey today by supporters of a Los Angeles charter high school that has been threatened with closure due to low standardized test scores.
Anahuacalmecac International Preparatory High School, located in East Los Angeles, opened five years ago and its charter membership is up for renewal.
At the June 18 LACOE board meeting, anahuacalmecac was the only campus out of 47 schools not to have its charter membership renewed. Board members cited the schools’ 2012 API Index score of 683, which falls below state standards.
Supporters of the school counter that its scores are on the rise and fall “in the middle range of all schools in the state.”
The rally begins at 1 p.m.
