Downey High School will host its open house and Future Viking Night this Thursday, May 15.
The event begins with a Future Viking meeting from 5:30-6:30 p.m. in the gymnasium. All prospective students are encouraged to attend and view demonstrations and live performances by campus departments and Career Technical Education.
Downey High’s new Engineering and Transportation Building will be open for tours, and teachers will be showcasing applied technologies such as engineering and robotics, aeronautics, alternative energy, drafting and design, and automotive technology. New and vintage automobiles will be on display, including two vintage dragsters.
The Fine Arts Department will concurrently hold their annual art show, while the botany classes will give tours of the Downey High Orchard. There will be live performances by the Jazz Band, cheer, dance and advanced choir on the Rally Stage.
Dinner will be available from local vendors, including Frantone’s Pizza, Taco’s Taco and Steve’s Kettle Corn.
The open house is from 6-8 p.m. and is open to the public.
