Downey man hurt in hit-and-run

Law enforcement officials are investigating a hit-and-run crash involving a Downey man that occurred in the early morning hours of Aug. 22 in Norwalk.

The victim was hit by a pick-up truck on the 11600 block of Van Ruiten Street, not far from the intersection of Pioneer Boulevard and Rosecrans Avenue.

Sheriff’s deputies were notified of the collision at 3:15 a.m. The victim, whose name has not been publicly released, sustained serious injuries and remains hospitalized.

“Due to the circumstances surrounding the collision, the driver may have not known someone had been run over,” authorities said. They did not offer more details.

The suspect vehicle may be a white, full size, Ford pickup truck.

Detectives are asking the driver to come forward. Local residents are also being asked to check any potential surveillance video that may have captured images of the crash.
