Jacinda Jade Castellanos, a student at Ramona Convent Secondary School, is a contestant in a Dr. Pepper tuition giveaway contest and she needs online votes to advance.
Jacinda, who lives in Downey, says she wants to become a pediatric neurosurgeon after seeing her young cousin die following brain surgery.
“I have taken this instance of devastation and turned it into ambition, an ambition that will lead me on a path of success,” Jacinda says. “I went from a young woman who let the bad get the best of her, to one who let it encourage her to follow her dreams and become a woman empowered by individuality.”
Dr. Pepper is giving away $1 million in scholarships to young people across the country.
